TruthQuest Journals:

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (BP)--Today was so full of insight! I started the day off by talking to Michael who lives on the beach in San Diego. He saw all of our cameras and immediately started asking questions. It amazes me how easy it is to strike up a conversation when there are three camera crews following you around. Anyway, Michael was very confused where Salvation was concerned. He honestly thought he was saved, but he didn’t refer to Jesus as “my Savior.” He also kept saying that he had to work for his salvation. Even after he read verses that contradicted his views, he still thought he was saved. Hopefully the Spirit will use the scripture that he read today to do a work in his life.

After talking to Michael, Tim and I interviewed Pastor Evan Laurer. He is the coolest guy! He has an intense love for the ocean and it brings him closer to God. The ocean reminds him of God because of the vastness of it. In just the couple of blocks of beach that we saw, there was more water than could even be measured, and that was not even a fraction of a slice of all the ocean in the world. The ocean also has an intense beauty at so many levels. The water is so blue and the tree covered hills come right up to the beach. There is also so much beauty beneath the water that we did not even see. The ocean also holds so much power. When we were surfing, even the smallest waves had a strong current that pulled us to the bottom of the wave. All of these descriptions of the ocean can be metaphors for God. Pastor Evan showed this to me, and it made me think that we can find God in everything if we look.

Obviously one of the coolest things that happened today was surfing. I surfed in San Diego! It was one of the most fun things I have ever done. It was also cool because I was totally expecting to not get up and just be wiped out the whole time. However, I actually did a good job! I think I surfed more than I wiped out!

Another thing that happened was there was this guy rummaging through the trashcan looking for aluminum cans. I thought I would help him out by giving him some money so I gave him a dollar. But what I should have done was told him about Jesus. I might have helped him not be hungry this one time, but he will be hungry again. I could have given him something that satisfied his soul. Hopefully tomorrow I will have prepared my heart more to be looking for more opportunities for sharing my faith.

Verse of the Day:
Ps 93:4
4 Mightier than the thunder of the great waters,
mightier than the breakers of the sea--
the LORD on high is mighty.
NIV

Lord, thank you for displaying your glory so visibly. Even though the ocean has so much power and depth, you are greater than the ocean and even created the ocean. I had such a good time today and had some victories and some failures, but I pray you would help me to make something of both of them. Help me to learn and to do better tomorrow. Help me to prepare my heart every morning so I will make the most of every opportunity. I love you!
