TruthQuest Journals:

David
PACIFIC BEACH, Calif. (BP)--Having been born and raised in the “buckle” of the Bible Belt, I have not had many opportunities to see what the real world is actually like, apart from the media. Cleveland, Tenn., is a wonderful city, a place where I hope to raise my family, but it is nothing like the rest of the world. Even in Nashville, where I have spent the past four days, the team has been around nothing but church-goers who expect the best from us. I have been in a comfort zone for a while now, and California has already thrown me from it.

Everyone that I have met here has been incredibly nice, but it does not take someone with a doctorate in Christianity to realize that the Golden State is a bit different from Tennessee. That is not to say that other states are less sinful than California, but so far, it has been easy to tell that not many churches call this state home. The people I have seen so far have all been surprisingly friendly, but there is a hurt in their eyes, something that cannot be mistaken for anything other than a need for Jesus. The prospects here for evangelism are staggering. I am so excited to see what the Lord will do in this great state.

Possibly the most exciting part about being a Christian in California is the presence of “cutting-edge” ministry. This type of ministry takes what is popular in today’s culture and uses it to bring others to Christ. For example, Saturday, we will learn how to surf with a Christian surfing ministry which witnesses on the beach. We will also be working with a high mountain adventure team in the near future, something I greatly anticipate. Christians around the world should look at and emulate the ways in which California is winning people for Christ.

I greatly look forward to the opportunities God will bring our way through the means of cutting-edge ministry.
