TruthQuest Journals:

Cara
PACIFIC BEACH, Calif. (BP)--Evan Lauer is a cool guy! Giving out some “soda”, (it’s coke where I come from) what a cool thing and what a ministry. It was such a cool thing—to meet people where they are. People here, for the most part, were genuinely appreciative. And another thing God keeps teaching me is people , in one since, are all the same.

They may have different opinion, different backgrounds, and different attitudes, but they’re still just people. (A little profound thought from Cara) About handing out water, one thing Todd said tonight was, like the Samaritan woman, a glass of water can change a life. Yesterday I was so scared about witnessing and I wanted so much for God to use me.

Today I got my chance. Almost first thing when I started handing out bottles of cans of stuff there was this guy with a bike so I proceed to ask him if he wanted some junk we were giving out. Then I just struck up a general conversation with him.

Well, then he left. As soon as he started riding off I was like why didn’t I ask him if he had any spiritual beliefs. I was quite mad at myself. Then I went over to where Katie was talking with this guy, his name was Mickey, this cute old guy with a flower in his lapel. We just went down a list of questions Bill Faye taught us to ask. It turns out he was raised in a Jewish/Christian Scientist home when we was a child. He was a very philosophical.

He was really receptive to what we had to say though. Finally he just rode off his little motorized wheelchair. Then we talked to this guy (Katie and I) and he said no to like every question we asked. Such as: “Do you have spiritual beliefs?’ ‘No.’ ‘Do you believe in heaven or hell?’ ‘No.’ Then we asked if you were to die after you left talking to us where would you go and he said, “No where.” And I was like why do you believe that. And he said, “Because I have no proof that there’s a God.” And I told him this little analogy of, “Can you see the wind?” and he said no. I said, “But you can feel the wind, right?” He said yeah. I said, “Well it’s the same with God. I can’t see God, but I can sure feel him working in my life.” He said that’s what I wanted him to say. And I said well just think about what I said that’s all I’d ask. Well, needless to say at the end of the day he stopped back to see if we had any more cokes. So I was glad we had at least remembered us.

Mr. Mickey, the cute old guy also stopped back twice. One time he talked to us and the second time he just rode by. But I would say one of the best parts of the day was when I saw Larry riding back on him bike. I told Katie that I had to talk to him. We started asking him questions, and he was so eager to hear what we had to say. He was really listening. The thing that really gave me a burden for Larry was that he seemed so unsure of himself, and the whole time I was thinking, “God could transform that man.”

Well, to make a long story longer, Katie and I got to help Larry pray and ask Jesus into his heart. We got him to talk to pastor Evan and he sounded like he really wanted to come so hopefully it will work out that he can go. The thing that encouraged me the most about today was that I think people were really thinking about what we had to say. Surfing was even more fun more fun than I thought it would be. I was way scared going out there, but Josh, the instructor, made me feel more at ease. I wasn’t a total loser at it. I got up two more times and three to be technical (once on my knees.) I loved it! About five times today I had movie moments.

Such as when the sun was setting and we were singing with Andy. Speaking about singing, I just love singing with TruthQuesters. I just feel like we really come to Jesus’ feet and just sing. Hopefully we are a “sweet sound in his ear.”
